Hi, I’m Laura, a natural light photographer who specializes in maternity, newborn, and family photography. I use an organic, natural style to capture the fleeting moments of these special times. Hazel moon Photography was born from my desire to capture the real you, and the beauty within. Life is full of special moments, and I am passionate about finding and photographing the beauty in these.

I love finding the light. I love natural smiles. I love capturing love, and life, with my lens. I don’t just want to take your picture, I want to have fun during our session, laugh with you, and give you the most gorgeous images of you and your loved ones.

As a mother of 3 (going on 4!), I am acutely aware of the transformative experience of motherhood, and I love to honor that time with each family. Sessions are designed around each individual’s needs, and families and babies are treated with the utmost care. 

Laura Hazelton’s work has been featured online by Beyond the Wanderlust and Candid Childhood. Her work can also be found on the walls of The Nest and Sierra Homebirth and she is the featured artist of The Nest website. In 2016 she published the “Dad’s of Nevada County” calendar to benefit The Nest.

I am a natural light photographer, specializing in family portraiture, and I am most drawn to photographing mothers with their children. I moved to Nevada County in the fall of 2015 and launched my Modern Motherhood Series the following January as a way to connect with women in this community and shoot the work I'm most passionate about. It's a photo and interview series that documents women in their homes, surrounded by their children. My goal was to portray motherhood in an honest, natural way, capture the beauty of the routine and the coziness of home, and open up the conversation about motherhood. I recently became a mother and feel even stronger about making motherhood portraiture accessible in this community. In addition to portraiture, I am also available for select weddings and passion projects.
